“Let choice whisper in your ear and love murmur in your heart.
Be ready. Here comes life.” ~ Maya Angelou
I’ve noticed that since Covid started I’ve slowly become more guarded and less social, and in the small town where I live people often cross the street, look down or look away when you approach which makes greeting strangers feel awkward.
So I thought it might be handy to review a few conversation starters that were inspired from a recent Blog post by Patty Contenta:
Tip #1: Just say “Hello”. Practice saying hello to random strangers. You don’t have to do anything else, just say hello, and know that you sprinkled some joy in their day.
Tip #2: Talk to people in the service industry – it’s a great way to show appreciation and practice your conversational skills.
Tip #3: Triangulation. There’s you, there’s a stranger, there’s some third thing that you both might see and comment on. Things like a piece of public art or their background on the zoom call or the veggie options at your favorite market. Give it a try and see if starts a conversation.
When you talk to strangers, you’re making unexpected connections. If you don’t talk to strangers, you might miss out on a potential friend who influences your life for the better, a business partner, a life partner or simply someone to share a joyful moment with who raises your vibration.
Last weekend when I was walking on Whidbey Island everyone I passed was friendly, happy to be in this glorious setting and some even stopped to talk. Love how good it feels to be out exploring again:)
